The Australian side posted a challenging total of 294 for 8 after opting to bat first, with Renshaw contributing a crucial 109 runs to lead his team’s innings.
Renshaw’s impressive performance was bolstered by key partnerships, particularly with teammates Alex Carey and Ollie Peake, which played a significant role in establishing Australia’s commanding score. Despite a valiant bowling effort by Zimbabwe’s Newman Nyamhuri, who claimed 5 wickets for 62 runs, the hosts found themselves with an uphill task.
In their chase, Zimbabwe managed to reach 235 before being bowled out in 45.1 overs. The team’s innings was briefly revived by a 98-run partnership between Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza, following the loss of four early wickets. Ervine contributed 59 runs before being dismissed by Nathan Ellis, while Raza added 57 before being bowled by Spencer Johnson, as Zimbabwe’s momentum waned.
Nathan Ellis was instrumental in dismantling Zimbabwe’s lower order, finishing with impressive figures of 5 for 31 from 9.1 overs, sealing the win for Australia. The series will continue with the second ODI scheduled for Friday in Harare, followed by the third match on Sunday.
