Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York next week during the United Nations General Assembly, according to U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack. This meeting is set to provide a platform for the leaders to address key issues in bilateral relations and major regional concerns.
The encounter between Erdoğan and Trump comes after their last meeting at the NATO summit in Ankara in July, where they discussed the future of the alliance, regional security, and ongoing international conflicts. The discussions during that summit highlighted the strengthening ties between Washington and Ankara during Trump’s second term.
Although the specific agenda for the upcoming talks has not been disclosed, the meeting coincides with the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, running from September 22 to September 28. This annual gathering will see world leaders deliberating on significant international security and humanitarian issues, including the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, as well as developments in countries such as Iran, Sudan, Myanmar, Haiti, and Cyprus.
Erdoğan’s previous visit to the U.S. was in September 2025, marking his first trip to Washington in six years, where he was hosted by Trump at the White House. The upcoming meeting in New York is expected to further the dialogue on pressing global and bilateral topics in the context of the current geopolitical climate.
